Grading & Site Preparation — Work Examples
These field photos show gravel access, excavated areas, shaped ground, grading equipment, and site preparation. The gallery provides examples of the ground conditions and equipment work involved in preparing access and construction areas.
Defining the Grading Scope
Grading starts with the required elevations, drainage direction, and finished condition. JDP reviews cut and fill limits, material movement, equipment access, haul routes, and coordination with adjacent work before pricing. Rough grading and fine grading serve different stages of the job; neither should be assumed to include every item needed for final paving, landscaping, or construction.
The proposal identifies included excavation, backfill, grading, hauling, and stabilization. Imported fill, stone, testing, surveying, and permanent construction materials are assigned separately. JDP normally provides labor, equipment, and supervision, while the GC or owner furnishes materials unless the written proposal states otherwise.
