Mass clearing and grading in Central Virginia
Open the site. Establish access. Prepare the ground for the next phase.
JDP Clearing & Excavation coordinates clearing, grubbing and grading for commercial and development projects across Richmond and Central Virginia. We price the work from your plans, site conditions and required finished condition, with responsibilities defined before equipment arrives.
Mass clearing and grading built around your site
One coordinated field sequence for the work included in your proposal: tree and brush removal; grubbing and stump excavation; timber and debris handling; excavation and rough grading; access, drainage and final handoff.
From wooded acreage to planned grades
Mass clearing and grading involves more than acreage. Vegetation, stump requirements, soil conditions, haul routes and the next trade's needs determine how the work should be sequenced.
Clear and grub
Remove trees and brush within approved limits, handle timber and vegetative debris, and excavate stumps and roots where specified. Protected areas, disposal methods and the required grubbing depth are established in the accepted scope.
Excavate and shape
Coordinate soil excavation, onsite material movement, cut and fill, and rough grading when included. Quantities, unsuitable material, import or export requirements and compaction responsibilities are identified before pricing is finalized.
Prepare the handoff
Finish the included work to the agreed elevations and condition. Fine grading, drainage work, erosion controls and stabilization can be included as defined scopes or priced separately for the next phase.
Plan the sequence before mobilization
-
Confirm the work limits. Review current civil plans, access points, protected areas, utility information and schedule.
-
Coordinate access and erosion controls. Establish required protections and construction access in the approved sequence before disturbance advances.
-
Keep clearing and earthwork connected. Plan timber handling, stump removal, stockpiles and haul routes so one operation supports the next.
-
Define completion. Agree on grade, cleanup, stabilization and the condition required for the next contractor.

Clear responsibilities from the start
JDP provides labor, equipment and supervision for the accepted scope. On subcontract packages, the owner or general contractor furnishes materials unless our proposal states otherwise.
Hauling, disposal, imported fill, aggregate, erosion controls, stabilization, traffic control and other project-specific requirements are identified as included, excluded or separately priced. Mobilization and travel are evaluated for the project location.
Our core service area is Richmond and Central Virginia. We review projects farther from the area based on scope, access and schedule.
Questions before pricing
Does clearing include stump removal?
Only when included in the scope. Clearing removes above-ground vegetation; grubbing addresses stumps, roots and buried organic material. The proposal defines the treatment and limits.
Can JDP clear and grade the same site?
Yes. JDP can coordinate clearing, grubbing, excavation and grading within an agreed package. Plans and proposal establish earthwork, drainage, compaction and final-condition requirements.
Is debris hauling included?
Disposal is project-specific. Chipping, stockpiling, hauling and approved disposal arrangements affect production and cost. The accepted proposal states the included method and responsibilities.
Can you price from an aerial or concept plan?
An aerial or concept plan can support an initial scope discussion. Final pricing depends on confirmed work limits, site conditions, quantities and required finished condition.
Let's review your clearing and grading scope.
Send the plans, location and schedule. We will review the work and put the scope, assumptions and responsibilities in writing.
